Breathing Life into Static Interfaces
If UI design is the body, Interaction Design is the soul. It focuses on the structure and behavior of interactive systems. It is not just about how things look, but how they act when touched or manipulated.
At ENS, we engineer interactions that reduce cognitive friction. We anticipate what the user wants to do next and ensure the interface responds in a way that feels human, immediate, and gratifying.
The 5 Dimensions of Interaction
We utilize a holistic framework to ensure every interaction is meaningful, spatial, and temporally aware.
Words
Words are interactions. Labels and buttons must be meaningful and simple to understand.
Visuals
Typography, icons, and diagrams that user interacts with. These are perceived as interactive.
Objects
The physical hardware (mouse, touchscreen, keyboard) through which users interact.
Time
Media that changes with time (animations, videos, sounds). This provides rhythm to the UX.
Behavior
How the system reacts to the previous four dimensions. The feeling of "flow" and operation.
Motion with Meaning,
Not Just Decoration
In Interaction Design, animation is functional. It bridges the gap between where the user was and where they are going. We use motion to solve usability problems, not just to make things look cool.
Orientation
Helping users understand the spatial relationships between screens (e.g., a menu sliding in from the left).
Focus
Using movement to draw attention to critical updates or required actions without being intrusive.
Feedback
Visual confirmation that an action (like a form submission) has been received and processed.
